Mike why don't you explain the difference between a tapa, pinxto, and a ración. This is one of those Spanish things I do not want to get in the middle of.

A ración is a plate to share with your friends and since tapas (hot or cold) are not served in the Basque country, the difference between a tapa and a pintxo is irrelevant.

Pamplona is one of the best places to experience great pintxos, but if you’re ever in Bilbao, you have to follow Mikel to all of the best places for a pintxo and glass of wine. In Donostia and Hondarribia it's usually 2 or 3 pintxos per glass, but you can sit if you want.

Unfortunately I've only been to Pamplona during Fiesta de San Fermìn when food is not exactly the focus of the restaurants. Otano, however, never fails to satisfy.
My food meccas are San Seb in Spain and Alba in Italy.

Forgive me....we had our first patatas bravas at the 4th place, I think, along with the 4th glass of wine when we started talking to some people and they said OH you need to try these....we finished out our night there.

We also enjoyed pinxtos in San Sebastian and Bilbao. It was a great trip.

I used to travel to ALICANTE twice a year for business and I remember eating TORTILLA DE PATATA almost every day.
Absolutely loved them
The post also brought back memories of my beautiful Italian grandmother who made me fabulous egg and potato omelets.

Thanks for giving me such great memories.

"Robert, there will many Spaniards who will disagree wuth you". About what, pintxos, tapas, racións, or the level of fine cuisine in Pamplona, Bilbao, Donostia and the rest of the País Vasco?

The discussion was not about quality but the differences between tapas, pinxtos, and raciones of which you thought were basically size or irrelevant altogether.
