San Sebastian-any info?
Hi just returned from Begur in North east Spain-fabulous!!! Fancy venturing to the North West/San Sebastian area. (It's Anthony Bourdain's fault!) we are thinking of driving from UK-we did this time and loved it. Thinking of maybe hiring a villa which we did this time. Any info recommendations would be much appreciated

San Sebastian is an amazing town. We stayed at the Marie Christine, which is stunning, but not on the beach. We were there during the Jazz festival, and heard some great music. The food is spectacular, from Arzak to the local tapas bars. The ingleterre is right on the beach and is lovely as well.

I was there at the end of June and aside from a big, BIG storm that blew in late one afternoon, was sunny and very warm. Was my first trip there and just loved it...seems more like a little kingdom unto itself than just a town in Spain. We stayed at Hotel Londres and Ingelterra (??) and had spectacular views.

It's officially called Donostia, the Basque word for the town - San Sebastian, though widely used, is frowned upon by some Basques who feel they've been suppressed by the Spanish for eons. Street signs in two languages often have their Spanish names scratched off.
