San Marco Square in December

Hi Everyone,

My husband and I are planning a trip to Italy over Christmas. We would like to visit Venice. I went to Venice in college and loved listening to the live music in San Marco Square. I promised myself that the next time I went to Venice would be with my husband so we could dance in San Marco Square. Is that going to be possible? Are the outdoor cafes and live music offered the week between Christmas and New Year's?

if not underwater which is at times the case in winter

I was there then, and I think the answer is no. You could still dance, although possibly you might need boots, as stated. If I recall correctly from my research, the outdoor music starts up sometime in April.

I was there over Chrsitmas in 2004 and when it wasn't flooded there was no live music.

hire a gondoleer from nearby Gondola Centrale and dance to his accordion.

Thanks for the responses. I was afraid that was going to be the answer. :-)

We were there in early January this year. Can't recall any live music, but it was still a great place to be. The Christmas decorations were still out, no flooding at all, and not so many crowds. It was wonderful.

bring an ipod w/ a headset splitter and queue up a good song. Once you're dancing it'll just be the 2 of you anyway..who cares what the others are thinking?
