San Gimignano with car 3 nights
After basing ourselves in Montepulciano for 7 nights we will then move on to an agriturismo for 3 nights, 10 mins drive from San Gimignano, with half board. We will have a car and I am looking for suggestions for day trips.
We will then drop our car off our car in Florence. All suggestions appreciated. We will be there in mid October |
While in SG with a car a few years ago, we took a day trip to the Chianti are, visiting Greve, Panzano and a vineyard near Siena. We also went to Volterra and to an olive producer between SG and Volterra. And we spent a day in SG.
We liked Chianti so much that we have been back twice to stay in a farmhouse near Panzano. |
mmmm sounds good. Was it easy driving around the area, small roads are the best?
A visit to a winery might be nice. I have read of people talking about the Greve & Chianti area. Volterra was on my radar. |
You should try
San Giamigano Bruschetteria Wine Bar ***** Antica Taverna Vicolo Mainardi 10 |

Have you been INTO Siena? You should IMO
Parking at San Gim..get ready to pay in one of the lost..always helps to have coins |
Hi Dukey1 - We are not sure whether we will see Siena whilst staying in Montepulciano or when near San Gimignano. But Siena is definitely on the list. Is it correct that we should park in a parking lot outside of the town of Siena? Do we walk from there?
I will make sure we have coins for parking in San Gimignano. Apparently our agriturismo is about 45mins walk to San G. So that might be an option. |
For Siena---enter at the SIENA SUD exit and the Tufi gate following signs for the Il Campo parking lot---be patient and follow the big "P" signs---you will find it. It is a short walk into---of all things---Il Campo.

Thanks Bob excellent information as usual! All saved to my Siena file.
