San Gimignano vs Chianti
 

There are 3 of us taking a car from Rome to Nice via Tuscany. We will be leaving Rome in the morning and want to stop somewhere along the way. Is it being unreasonable to spend the night in a castle in Chianti classico area or should we plan to stay in S.Gim. for our first night and Florence the 2nd. Has anyone heard of the Hotel L'Antico Pozzo in S.Gim? Any route,sightseeing,lodging,eating,winery(especially Chianti Classico) suggestions for our 2 day trip in this area? <BR>Thanks ....Barb

We just returned from Tuscany--- Sam Gimignano is lovely-- a little touristy but very nice-- we passed by the Hotel Antico Pozzo and it looked lovely-- we stayed at the Villa Scacciapensieri in Siena-- it was very lovely and would go back there in a minute-- it is on the CHianti road so we were able to go up to the Castle di Brolio which was absolutely beautiful and down towards Montalcino and Pienza!! The Cane E Gato in Siena is a wonderful restaurant-- very, very special!!! <BR>Enjoy <BR>Mary

I would recommend staying overnight in San Gimignano for a very specific reason. Yes, it's quite touristy during the day, but the buses depart and you have the lovely little town to explore in peace! L'Antico Pozzo is a very good choice as is La Cisterna. L'Antico Pozzo doesn't have a restaurant, but there's a very good one at La Cisterna with a view down over the hill. You can then spend the whole next day exploring Chiantishire on way to Florence. Sounds like a good plan!

Verrazano Winery and Badia al Coltibuono near Gaiole for wine tasting and reserve for a great lunch!
