Salzburg vs. Vienna
I'm planning to visit Austria in the fall but only have 1 or 2 days to do this so I'll probably only have enough time to see one city. I'm looking for some opinions on which city has more to offer .....
|
Salzburg is lovely, but Vienna has far more to offer. Stay within the Ring, and you can walk around and get a real feel for this amazing city! Have fun.

You can't loose with either choice! Vienna has a LOT more to do and see than Salzburg. However, Salzburg is such a quaint town. If you're looking for more of a city, go for Vienna. If you're looking for more of a small town experience, go for Salzburg. Have fun!

Vienna is a Not To Be Missed city in my opinion. Salzburg is so, so.

I went to Salzburg and Vienna 2 years ago and had a chance to experience both...
Salzburg is a quiet town out of a storybook and the people are the kindest you will ever meet. The fortress is a MUST to go through; beautiful views of the town and the valley from the top.
However, if your into the big-city-uptown feel, you might want to take your chances with Vienna. Literally: shops, restaurants, and cafes on EVERY street. I stayed at the Crown Plaza overlooking the Danube river and had breath-taking views of the water, the service and accomodations were great. St. Stephen's Cathedral you won't want to miss; it's in the direct center of the city. I hope this helped you, have fun!

Wow, they are such different places. I LOVED Salzburg - very quaint, very small, great cafes, great walks. I wasn't that impressed with Vienna - it was so much of a city with too much neon and too many charmless stores. There are beautiful museums and charming restaurants, but I would choose salzburg in a minute.
|
PS: If you visit Salzburg - be sure to visit St. Johannes Am Imberg. Easily teh prettiest little church I've ever seen (you pass it on the walk up the hill to the Capuchin monastery)

Salzburg should be first in my opinion. It is the most pure and untouched town and so compact and easy to navigate. You will fall in love with Salzburg.I loved Vienna but it has more the big city feel.Salzburg has a certain charm.

Please do not take the writer's advice about the Crown Plaza on the Danube. It is out in the sticks and at the very end of the public tram. You can't go wrong with either city. The responses about the differences are accurate. In my opinion you need more than one or two days in either city.
