Check www.bahn.de (English under TIMETABLES on the left) I think it's about 2-2.5 hrs.

We take this train trip occasionally when we get a rainy day in Berchtesgaden. It should take a little under 2 hours. It's fun to do, clean, good food at the on board imbiss...There's something much more romantic when you take the train in Europe!! Great shopping and fun in Munich!

It's a 2 to 2.5 hour trip through beautiful country. Lots of scheduled departures from Munich-Salzburg and vice versa. Munich Hbf is near large department store, whose name is Herties. Trams/Ubahn take you to sights/restaurants of interest in minutes

If there are 2 of you, the trip will cost over 80 Euros round trip for regular tickets. Ask instead for a "Bayern Ticket" (weekday daypass good after 9 am) or a "Schönes Wochenende" ticket (Sat or Sun daypass good any hour) and up to 5 of you can make the round trip journey for 21 Euros total riding the regional trains. The 8:51 weekday RE train that departs from<BR>Munich takes 2 hours, 6 minutes, with no changes; you buy regular tickets for the 9 minutes or so you travel prior to 9 am, so add a couple of Euros to the price on weekdays.
