Salzburg to Munich do-able in a day?

Would this be a feasible day trip from Salzburg during the winter months? Any suggestions for something to do there that would fit into my time limitations? Thanks.

Without knowing the context of this question (how many days in Salzburg? any other destinations in Germany or any other country in Europe?), I'm not sure I would recommend Munich as the only, or most desirable day trip destination from Salzburg.

But sure, it's do-able. And the Deutsches Museum is a good place to spend a fraction of a day or a whole day. Best if you are comfortable reading at least some German. The Alte Pinakothek is also good for an hour or two, in addition or as an alternative.

Best wishes,

Rex
Very doable, probably less that 2 hour train reide to Hauptbahnhof in Munich.

To do's in Munich:

1. Marienplatz
2. Residenz...home of the Weitlesbachs
3. Karlsplatz...shopping
4. Neu Pinakothek...I like it better than the old
5. Schloss Nymphenburg
6. Augistinerbrau brew house or Hofbrauhaus
7. Deutsche Museum
8. Englisher Gartnes

US

Just about equidistant from Salzburg are Innsbruck and Munich. A bit closer is Linz, a nice city on the Danube. And a bit farther, but a real overlooked jewel, is Klagenfurt. For a day trip, though, it might be a bit too far.

Personally, I'd opt for Cesky Krumlov and Ceske Budejovice in the Czech Republic rather than Munich. And it turns out that they are a bit closer. If you go to either or both of these two, you'll get a really different experience from a trip to Munich.

I will be in both Munich and Salzburg next week. I would be interested in doing a day trip to Cesky Kremluv. How far would it be from Salzburg?

This answer surprised me - - I was thinking twice this far.

from www.viamichelin.com

137 mi in 2h34 (including 92 mi by motorway in 1h20)

Keep in mind that you may have to arrange special permission (and pay extra) to be allowed to take a rental car into the Czech Republic.

Best wishes,

Rex
A day trip to Ceske Budejovice and Cesky Krumlov is not possible by train from Salzburg. 6-8 hours one way with four changes (www.oebb.at).

Munich is just 90 minutes from Salzburg by EuroCity train, 1h55m by RegionalExpress.
