Salzburg to Annecy by car

I just found this site. Fantastic! My wife, son (15 yrs old) and I are travelling around europe in late Sept all of Oct 05, by car. We are trying to strike a balance of touring (see absolutely everything for 5 minutes) and having a holiday (sitting in a cafe watching the world go by). After 2 nights in Salzburg we will travel to Annecy in France and can take three days to get there. There are a number of different routes to take, such as going through Munich (is it worth seeing Neushwanstein)or Innsbruck. Everyone seems to like Lausanne. We love coffee, scenery and shopping (my wife specifically). Can anyone suggest an itinerary. Many Thanks

Rather than suggest a specific route to follow, let me give you my suggestions for places that are worth a stop, and then you can decide what you want to do. These are all places that are notable for their ambience, scenery, or architecture. My suggestions:
-First day: Innsbruck area, Merano, Bolzano
-Second day: Lucerne/Interlaken area, also Grindelwald, Matterhorn.
-Third day: On the way to Annecy, Chamonix and Megeve.

Look around for info on those areas for your pick of places to visit or stay overnight. Good luck.

Hi crawfordatcronulla,

Here are some other suggestions: St Anton am Arlberg, Scuol, Sils, and then Montreux, Vevey, and Morges on Lake Geneva.

The catch is that you'll have to use secondary roads between Landeck & Scuol, and then getting from Sils to the Lake Geneva area will be a headache -- probably entail going all the way up to Zurich and then back down again.

Have fun with this!
