salzburg - luxury hotel
Hi. I'm looking for a luxury hotel in Salzbrug. Unfortunately the Sacher does not have connecting rooms and we prefer that for our family of 5. I know of the schloss fuschl and the jagdhof, but I think we would prefer to stay right in Salzburg. If anyone can recommend a hotel, I would greatly appreciate it. Or - if you can give me advice regarding staying outside of the city, I would appreciate that as well. We will have a rental car, but we usually prefer to walk to great restaurants and attractions, etc.
Thank you! |
Hi azh; We stayed in a Starwood Hotel. Name was Goldener Hirsch. Very nice, but it cost top dollar, because of the location. We have stayed there twice [with points]. One thing, if you consider this hotel, make sure they don't put you in the ANNEX. It's just across the way, but not worth it. iris1745/dick

Have you been in touch with the Sacher directly? We stayed there under it's previous name (which escapes me) and got two rooms which had a small common hallway and then a lockable outer door to the public hallway.
Not sure if these still exist - or if either room would be large enough for 3 - but I seem to recall that the rooms were sizeable. |
The Hotel Goldener Hirsch is a great hotel in Salzburg. Check it out...

I will call the Sacher and find out - thank you! And, as for the Goldener Hirsch - although it looks very nice, I crossed it off my list bc of the photos of the deer heads all over the walls - just not my style, but thank you anyway!

Hello azh;
Check out the Bristol located in the Centre: http://www.bristol-salzburg.at/ We stayed at the Bristol for a week just before Christmas. It was terrific in every respect. Gradyghost |
I agree on the Goldener Hirsch. It's a wonderful hotel - excellent service, perfect location, great restaurant.
I actually booked them on Travelocity a few years ago and got a great price. Then they upgraded me when I arrived. |
I can appreciate that the goldener hirsh is a wonderful hotel, but I am an animal lover/vegetarian, and I can't possibly stay at a place with deer heads plastered all over the walls as I see in the photos on their website. I know this is a personal opinion, but are there other suggestions, besides the goldener hirsh for a luxury hotel in Salzburg?

Another recommendation for the Bristol - excelent location ans service.
Schloss Monchstein - smaller - quiet location just outside the city - 10 minute frequent service by bus to the center Hotel Friecasher www.hotelfriesacher.com rated 4 star superior - a place I usually stay when in Salzburg fantastic breakfast buffet - excelent restaurants |
This does NOT meet your preference for staying in the city of Salzburg, but the 5* InterConti in Berchtesgaden (30min from Salzburg by car) has a stunning (in more than one way) location and a strictly modern interior design.

azh,
I did not see your post in which you rejected the Goldener Hirsch. If I had, I would not have bothered to suggest it. |
panecott - no need to explain. I am always very appreciative of every bit of advice!

We have enjoyed the Hotel Elefant, just off the Getreidegasse in the heart of Salzburg. It is small, family-owned, very pleasant, and has an excellent restaurant. The Website is http://www.elefant.at/.
Enjoy your trip; we love Salzburg and the Tyrol! |
