Salou - Some general location questions

I'm looking for some general location information about Salou.

Are more of the restaurant and bars located to the north or south of the port? Or rather north east or south west... ;;) Or are they all along that whole area? Are they mostly along Passeig de Miramar or somewhere else?

When renting an apartment above a restaurant/bar, how many floors up are ideal in order to not hear them all night long? And do they even go all night or rather just until midnight or so?

Do most people walk with their luggage from the train station to their hotel or apartment if staying along the promenade area along the beach?

Do you think the Cape Salou area is more beautiful, and therefore worth the longer walk into town?

I haven't been there but have been in hotels or apartments above bars. It depends on the type of bar and the type of building, you can't generalize. Along that stretch (p de Miramar) there are some huge modern apt buildings. So if you were on the 4th floor, you might not hear so much compared to being in a small, older small apt buildings. And of course if you didn't have a balcony or open up to the streetside would be different. And if the bar did not have an open front or patio in front, again, it's completely different than if it did. Because I was in a hotel above a restaurant/bar that had a patio in front to open air and of course that was noisy as long as people were there, and I was 3 stories up. If it had just been an enclosed bar/restaurant with no open air part in front, I'm sure you'd hear something on the floor above it (or more if there is loud music), but it's a different situation.

So if you have some specific places in mind, maybe you could post the URL and people could have better ideas as to the situation who would know the area well, perhaps.

Obviously, if you were on that floor right over that cafe, it's going to be very noisy as long as anyone is there (and often for a bit later due to staff maybe making noise). I'd want at least 4 floors up, if possible. Not to mention it depends if you want to keep windows open. And that is pretty tame compared to some other places along that street, there are crowds in the street, discos, etc. like this one http://tropicalsalou.com/

Rare to get anyone discussing Salou on this Forum! Are you determined to go? Why Salou? I hated the place but never entirely sure why. There are hundreds of better places to stay than Salou. Even if its beachlife or proximity to Barcelona there are much better places than here. Sorry for my honesty.

It's been a few years (2006 I think), but I recall more restaurants (many geared towards people from the UK - pubs, English breakfast, etc.)on the north end. The beach is really wide and things are across the road. There are buses you can catch.

I've stayed in Cap Salou before. It's a bit more remote and has a different feel. I've taken a bus from Cap Salou, gotten off on the north end of the beach at Salou, walked to Cambrils (more fishing village feel where Salou is more beachy) and back.

Buses seem to run often because of Port Aventura nearby. You can also catch a bus to Tarragona.

Cambrils seemed like it catered more to French tourists at the time.

FWIW - Our hotel practiced DCC so I would imagine others in the area do.

Salou is well past its best and now caters to mass-market tourism from Eastern Europe. Brits and Dutch - two largest groups that used to frequent - have moved on. From what I remember, the eastern end towards Pineda and Tarragona is busier with more bars and restaurants, but also noisier. You don't want any hotels on busy main roads but away from them. A couple of blocks away will make a difference, though it's a noisy resort in high season and you don't get much peace.

We stayed in Salou as a package deal when attending a rallye race; it was....uninspiring and rather drab in November. I think you "have" to be there because of a soccer camp, if I remember your other thread. Our hotel was nice enough, but....I'm sure it will be somewhat different for you, so enjoy. But....

If you have a car, go to Tarragona for a day or two; it's close, packed full of Roman and Medieval history, and quite interesting.

stevelyon - as texasbookworm mentioned, we HAVE to be in Salou for my friends son who will be at a soccer camp. I realize its not ideal, but it is what it is. We will have a full week in Barcelona prior to going down to Salou to be there when her sons starts games and tournaments. We are two women in our early fifties, who have been friends since our 20's, so we plan to have a fun time re-living our glory days :-D. Oh who am I kidding, life is still gloriously fun for both of us! ;)

Since we will be in the city when in Barcelona, we'd really like to be at the beach in Salou, preferably not at a hotel, even if it is a bit noisy. We will be there late June, so its pretty close to the busy season. We aren't really looking for peace, we're looking for fun and we don't mind the party atmosphere, in fact we plan to indulge a bit ourselves ;;). We will also do some day trips if we can, hopefully to some wineries, maybe a bike ride to Cambrils, and to see Tarragona. We might even try to fit an overnight stop in Sitges, or maybe a couple of nights on Ibiza. I realize we probably can't do it all...even though I'd like to! I've been to Spain before (San Sebastian, La Rioja, Seville, Alicante, and Valencia), but never Barcelona. My husband and I ended our trip in Valencia...well, because that's our last name and it was where we stocked up on souvenirs for the family :p
