Saloon car vs Estate car

I am looking at a car hire service for the trip from Heathrow to our London hotel. The site mentions a saloon car and an estate car. Does anyone know what the difference, besides price, is? I tried calling, but for some reason, my phone service won't make international calls now (snow storm, maybe?)
Thanks

An estate car is a station wagon. A saloon car is a larger sedan type car. A people carrier is a minivan. All are generally smaller than the US versions

...and a mini-van is just that, a tiny little van for conveying goods not people.

Thanks Highledge and Billy goat!
Will the sedan hold two large pieces of luggage and one carry on?

We had an estate from justairports for a family of 4. It was a minivan and the 4 of us and our luggage fit fine. I don't think it could seat more than 4 passengers.

What you do is contact the car service by e-mail or after your phone service is restored, and tell them what you have - they will tell you which sort of vehicle you need.

But are you talking about 1 person and 3 pieces of luggage, or 2 people, or 3? Unless you are talking about huge bags, if it is just you w/ 3 pieces of luggage most any car used by a car service would be adequate - even if some or most of the luggage had to be on the seat next to you.

Oh - I just saw the "our hotel" bit. So still need to know how many people you are talking about. The car service will be able to tell you the type of car.

A large four door saloon / hatchback like a Vauxhall Vectra or Ford Mondeo should comfortably accomodate 2 large cases and a carry-on.

I rode in a "saloon" last year. No problem for our 4 pieces of luggage.
