Sale on Eurostar Tickets

I've only taken the Eurostar a couple of times and don't remember what I paid, but this looks like a good price to me for RT:

Tickets have to be purchased by June 10 for travel July 26 through August 16.

I can't see the deal you quote, because it's an AOL page, password protected.

But if it really is as you claim, it may mark a historic moment.

Eurostar (like the airlines and hotels) zapped its Olympic period prices up, and many of us claimed this was a cynical ploy to exploit people gullible enough to believe the claptrap about soaring visitor numbers. We suspected Olympic-period prices would fall - well, round about now, as the awful truth that Olympics kill real tourism finally dawned.

The Olympomaniacs called this negativism. It'd be nice to see how the fares you've seen compare with normal prices.

Sorry, didn't realize the link would work that way. Here's a cut and paste:

Ah.

Olympic period excluded.

Great price outside the Games, though. London-Paris tickets aren't anything like that cheap. They obviously think there'll be a rush of us escaping.

Flanner, did you really think a bunch of your countrymen were going to sit around and watch a flood of people come into town and not take monetary advantage of it?

TDudette Jun 7th, 2012 12:09 PM

Thanks, StCirq!

I also received this e-mail directly from SNCF.
It's a very good deal, especially since the travel period extends to October 4th. If only it was available through Oct. 31st, I'd be ready to book in a flash.

" did you really think a bunch of your countrymen were going to sit around and watch a flood of people come into town"

Eurostar isn't a British company. There's not a shred of evidence that the Olympics will attract one single extra tourist than my country receives in any other July or August.
