Westport has many good pubs. Matt Molloy's was good as well as JJ O'Malley's. We liked Pat Cohen's in Cong. We loved the Cobblestone in Dublin but you can find good music all over town. The Porterhouse has good music in Temple bar. Do a literary pub crawl over a regular pub crawl. Brazen head should be a stop. Don't eat their chowder.

Glendalough should be a stop on your way back to Dublin.

I've spent a fair amount of time in County Cork and there is a ton to see/do in the area. I just would not stay IN Cork city.

Padraig - We would most definitely be more interested in the scenic route than the route that just gets us there faster. We plan on making stops along the way for things that are interesting. Due to all the recommendations we got, we will visit Cork but will stay in another town outside of Cork.

Macross- Glendalough was a town that struck my interest. Considered stopping there on the way to Dublin. Is there something we should do particularly there?
Would you recommend us stay in Blarney or Cobh instead of Cork?
West port is another town I would love to stop in. I have heard so many good things about it.

Sadly I have such a long list of things I'd like to do and just don't have the amount of time I would need to truly do it all.

Janisj - we will make a stop in cork to see what it has to offer and stay in a town outside of it instead

If you had more time maybe . . . But I personally would not venture into Cork city center - the driving is a bear and there is much to visit outside of Cork.

Janisj - ok! We will take your recommendation on that one and skip the city center!

I stayed in Cork city and loved it -in many ways it is an Irish patrimonious place more Irish than Dublin, kind of they saidwhenI wasthere- famous for its singing old-time Irish pub songs - had a great night pubbing. Cork has character - a unique city- hit Blarney Castle on the way in- if looking for a small town consider Blarney town.

the highlight of our drive thru West Coast Ireland was great - hit the Cliffs of Mohair and the Burren and especially the remote Dingle Peninsula-

Dingle Town makes a nice if touristed base- more singing pubs and also Funghi the Friendly Dolphin you can cavort with in Dingle Bay:

I think on the day that we drive through Cork we will stay in Blarney. I do want to visit Cohb, too.
I have heard mixed reviews on visiting and kissing the Blarney Stone. Is it worth it? Or something we should just skip?
