Sailing in Greece

Does anyone have advice about sailing (with a crewed boat) in Greece, either, say, for a week, from island to island, or daysailing from one location for four or five days? I'm thinking of doing it in mid-September. ZZ

Zambezi:

We were in Greece in June this year.
My husband and I have a sailboat and we
couldn't get over the fact that the
Aegean Sea is so beautiful but very few
sailboats were out there taking advantage of it. We stayed on Santorini and in Hydra and in both places the water was calm and the seas
were empty of most anything but ferries. It is our dream to return to this area and charter a sailboat but must discover first why others are not taking advantage of this beautiful part of the world. There did seem to be a chartering center in Poros, which is an island near Hydra, but that is the only information I can offer. The blue color of the Aegean is spectacular and much more inviting than the Caribbean where we have spent a lot of time.
Don't give up on your idea, you will love the Greek Islands.

AKNIC: Thank you for that information. We are working with Nick Trotter, of Fastnet and other ocean yacht racing fame (also Bitter End Yacht Club in BVI at one time in his career), who happens to live nearby us in the Northern Neck of Virginia and now has a chartering business. His wife has just been in Greece scouting locations and he'll soon offer some proposals. Did you find Santorini overly commercial? ZZ

Sounds like a commercial to me, not a legitimate request for information.

:-(

Sorry that you think I am engaging in commercial propaganda, Nukesafe. I am not. I was just trying to be informative to the only Fodorite who responded to my genuine and sincere request. ZZ

Zambezi:

We stayed in Oia in Santorini at the Katikies Hotel. There are a lot of tourists from the cruise ships but the town is still very lovely and has much to offer.
There are many t-shirt type shops but also some excellent nicer stores and many great restaurants. We rented a car one day and loved driving all around the island of Santorini. Would love to hear what your charter connection finds out about sailing in Greece. We are very interested in doing that some day. We have been to the Bitter End in the BVI and it is a great place to sail also.
