Sailing from Athens to Venice

As part of my planned trip for next March-April, one thing that my travel companion mentioned was maybe sailing from Athens to Venice (instead of flying). He's not talking about taking a ferry or a large cruise ship..an actual sail boat. Any ideas about companies which may offer a sailing cruise? Windstar doesn't have any on that itinerary in March.

Thanks!
Anne

Sure, you can rent a private charter bare boat in Athens, but the trip will take about a week.

Hi anne,

I think that the winds will be on your nose the whole way.

Better to sail from Venice to Athens.

PS, Weather may well be stormy.

Thanks....that's pretty much what I was afraid of! Our plane tickets (FF miles) are already a done deal...flying into Athens and home from Vienna. Other than that, we can change our itinerary as we want to. From my brief research, it looked like a (very) expensive charter was our only choise as Windstar doesn't have any that time of year, which I assumed was weather related.

We'll keep looking, but this idea might not pan out.

Thanks
Anne

Hi anne,

Are you and your TC experienced blue-water sailors?

I'm not (at all); Pat is somewhat, but he is older (to be polite!)...we would not be able to handle a boat ourselves. We would be looking more for something like a Windstar sailing cruise. A private charter would be wayyyyy more than we can afford. It's just an idea he brought up this week... we'll probably have lots more ideas before we get closer!

Well, Ira, his response when I suggested this trip was "but Anne, I'm pretty old". My response was, and how old will you be if we don't go?

I am really looking forward to this trip with a favorite relative, and I just hope I can keep up with him!!

Anne

This post is for Ira.

I read your post from 2003 from your stay in Florence at the B&B Peterson and had a few questions about it. We are considering staying there for 3 days, but want to know if there are any restrictions of coming and going etc. We are in our mid 20's and plan to go out at night. Also how far exactly is this place from the main city?? We want to see Florence but also explore Tuscany. We will not be renting a car as of yet, so hope to do most by foot or by train. Any helpful hints or suggestions??

Thanks!
