Safety in Rome

I am going to Rome for the first time at the end of April and have been told that pickpocketing is rife.Is this true and if so what advice beyond normal care is required?

Lain, check the following post, posted this morning for some ideas.

. Has anyone had any
problems with theft or
pickpockets in Venice?
8 responses; most recent
on 04/15/1999, 08:29 am
ET

I just got back from Rome and had no problems. Didn't get pickpocketed and didn't see anyone else having problems. Perhaps we were lucky. Just guard your wallet carefully and enjoy yourself. Have fun!

'Rife' is way too strong ... reports are overblown about Rome.

Travelers everywhere are good targets for thieves for lots of reasons, so, yes, care is wise.

More info on safety in Rome at http://twenj.com/romesafe.htm

Ed
