Having moved from Canada to the UK, just don't expect the new place to be a utopia..you might find equally disheartening things in the new place. Everywhere has its positives and negatives, and as far as corruption goes I can't imagine Sicily being a place to go to escape it, even if it is acknowledged.

That is a good point, jamie, but you have to admit that as an expat, you have a certain emotional detachment to what goes on in your adopted country, which has its pluses (you don't feel responsible) and minuses.

I'm sorry I misinterpreted "I'm also having medical issues and have no coverage in the US and need to see a doctor as soon as possible.". So you are a health tourist, then.
Which other countries have you lived in?

My sentiments exactly, size! The irony is just priceless.
Oh, and as far as needing to be 100% fluent in Italian - I doubt that would even help, if you aren't also fluent in the Sicilian dialect. We often had to have someone "translate" our Italian into Sicilian when we were there a few years ago.

Well, there is a large US Navy base near Catania so you might consider there with lots of military and dependents. I don't know what the fitness facilities on the base are like today but when I lived there, there was nothing.
