Safe parking in Naples

Anyone know of a good safe parking facility in Naples? We might stop there for several hours on the way from Amalfi to Rome, and we would have all our belongings in the car boot.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Wow, I wouldn't leave my belongings in the boot, Naples or any other large city in Italy. How about making Naples a day trip from Amalfi?

I agree with Monica

Yea, I'm not trying to trash Naples -- I love it, but "safe parking" particularly with regards to belongings left in the car and Naples just don't belong in the same post.

Hi J,

You want to drive into Naples??????

Are you also going to drive into Rome?

find one of the relatively few hotels that provide secure parking and still leave zilch in the car.

cars are a liability in places like Rome and Naples - Rome much of the historic centre is now off-limits to cars.

bilboburgler Mar 23rd, 2007 09:02 AM

no, you need to find a guarded carpark so google the italian for that and naples and start there

Safe ... in Naples #-)

I can't help you with a safe one. I think the hotel idea is good. Maybe especially an American hotel.

Our Rome driver won't take people to Naples anymore because he had 3 cars stolen from there. Definitly keep looking!

I wouldn't leave my Mars bar in a car in Naples.

OK - here are some guarded carparks on this link:

Multipiano Brin looks to be your best bet - less expensive than the port parks, and undercover.

Hope this helps ...

Little known item---If you rent a Hertz vehicle in Italy, and want to park in Napoli, the Hertz facility near the main train station will provide safe parking for the lenghth of your stay in Naples. I guess, after all, they don't want their autos stolen or vandalized. The parking is gratis. You just check the auto in, and simply retrieve it when you need it. It's a closed, guarded garage on Via Ferraris, adjacent to the station at Piazza Garibaldi.

Forgot one item---If Hertz knows you're going to Naples, it will NOT give you a high theft car, like a Fiat Punto or a Mercedes, etc. They will give you a French Citroen or similar auto. Nothing wrong with those, they are perfectly fine. I guess no one wants to steal a French car.

There is no such thing.

Thanks everyone. I had in mind to stop off in Naples for several hours after leaving Praiano and on the way to drop off friends at a Rome airport hotel.

Now we probably will just take the train or bus into Naples for a day. Or maybe better yet, just chill out on the terrace of our hotel in Praiano!

Cheers,

Hi J,

>Now we probably will just take the train or bus into Naples for a day. Or maybe better yet, just chill out on the terrace of our hotel in Praiano!<

I suggest spending a day in Naples.

From Naples Centrale (Garibaldi) take the metro 1 stop to Piazza Cavour and follow the signs to the Archaeological museum.

Walk S. downhill along Via E. Pessina to Piazza Dante.

Go E through Porte Alba along Via d. Tribunali to Calla S. Severo and visit the Capelle Sansevero. The Veiled Crist is worth the trip.

Continue East through Spaccanapoli back to the train station,

OR

Go S to the harbor.

From here, take the #1 trolley at Piazza Municipio to the train station.

Don't forget to stop off for some pizza.

Enjoy your visit.

Re: Pizza. My father-in-law, who goes to Naples all the time (wife from Naples) highly recommends Tutino's, which is very close to the train station. Also heard that da Michelle is excellent too.

Many thanks, Ira and Monica. The thought of Neapolitan pizza is luring me in!

Be sure to report back when you return and let us know where you ate in Naples! I'll be there in October.

You could park at the Airport and then take the Alibus or a cab into Naples or park at Naples Central Sation and leave your bags in the left luggage or pick one of the large Hotels that has parking

One thing you have to remember about Naples and many other places in Italy is that even if you have guarded parking.......the guards steal, also. If you try to fight it, your response would be that ... maybe it wasn't in there.... huh, I know nothing...
