safe paris hotel for solo female?
 

I am planning my first solo trip to Paris this Sept. I will be there for one week. I am asking your advise in choosing a safe and well located hotel. I need a clean and safe environment to lay my head at night. I am looking at the 5th and 6th but that is not definite. I would like to have access to restaurants nearby, as I do not think I want to be on the streets late at night. I am on a budget and would like something for reasonably priced. I have always liked getting your thoughts on travel issues. Look forward to your comments.

I stayed at the Hotel Monge and it was a great location. There is someone at the front desk all the time and everyone was very friendly. I felt safe in the area.

I paid 105 euro for a double, a single would be less. I'm not sure of your definition of "reasonably priced" though.

My 21 year old daughter and I stayed in the Hotel de Turenne in the 7th last month. I would feel perfectly safe staying there alone. And it was quite reasonable, €79 for the two of us.

It's less than a block from the Metro and there are restaurants in the area.

It was recommended to me by another poster, travelnut. And I'm very grateful to her!

We have stayed at Hotel College de France twice. They have upgraded their rooms but luckily, the price has remained affordable. We were never out really late (after midnight) but several days we did return around 10:30pm and always felt safe.

If you are looking for inexpensive...try the Hotel St. Andre des Arts--it's just a one star, so no a/c or elevator. A double is somewhere around 84 euros, breakfast included, so maybe a single is less. It is a little worn, but is clean and has great character/ambiance. It is on a very active street, just off the Buci Market area, Blvd St. Germain de Pres so you are never isolated and would have no problem going out for an evening meal in the neighborhood.

I've heard good things about the Hotel Monge cls2Paris recommended, that does seem to fit your requirements.

But what is your definition of "budget"? In addition to the 5th and 6th, you might also want to look at the 16th, esp. in the Passy/Victor Hugo areas. Very attractive, perfectly safe place of a solo woman traveler. Plenty of cafes, restaurants nearby.
Generally, you should feel safe walking around Paris after dark. The Hotel du Bois is a popular moderately priced choice in that neighborhood.

You should try to book your hotel ASAP. September is a popular month to visit and charming, inexpensive hotels fill up quickly.

Last week I stayed at the Hotel Jeanne D'Arc. I can't remember what arr. is in but the location (marais) was great and I never felt unsafe in the area. The single room was tiny but only 60 euro a night.

Another vote for Hotel du College de France in the 5th. 8 minute walk to Notre Dame. Our three daughters (17, 18 and 20) stayed there in March and felt very safe. 99 euro for a double at that time.
