No alcohol!? That must’ve been a long trip home! Glad you arrived home safely and your daughter is taking good care of you.
To a future trip! 🥂 |
Happy to hear you’re back home cheska, this has been an extremely stressful week for you. Now just open that bottle of wine, sit back, put your feet up and toast to the wonderful memories you have...
|
cheska, thanks for bringing us up to date. Glad you're home safely. We've been rooting for your trip home to go well.
As geetika says, you have all those months of wonderful memories, and they'll pop up when you open a bottle of wine and toast each other, looking into each other's eyes the French way. Salut! |
Glad to see you arrived home safely, and in the nick of time. No alcohol! What are they thinking! One, perhaps you'll be able to complete your journey. (One of my worst flights ever was a trip to Sydney from LA -- 14 hours squeezed in an economy middle seat between two members of a travelling rugby team and in front of a poor baby that cried the entire 14 hours.)

What everyone above wrote, cheska15. :wine:

No alcohol on a BA ... I'm surprised there wasn't an uprising resulting in them canceling the flight. You should read the complaints when they run out of Champagne in first on Flyer Talk, nevermind that there was plenty of other stuff to self medicate.
|
Just as an aside, I have noticed that quite a few people must be self medicating with champagne in Paris. The champagne shelf is the only one in the liquor department that is sometimes empty in the supermarkets.
|
kerouac That made me smile

Glad you are safely home and doing the quarantine . BTW I checked my travel insurance and it has a clause on pandemic and epidemics not being covered and it was added to the PDS in October 2018 . Probably resulting from the first corona virus i.e. SARS
|
Welcome home, cheska. I think I would have spent the first several hours of that flight crying over no alcohol. Glad your daughter took good care of you. And here’s to future trips for all of us!

Trophywife. Yes cancel any reason became void as well, because the insurance companies presume you are canceling any accommodation or whatever because France is in lockdown, and you are not allowed to travel

Welcome home!
Check out alcohol deliveries! |
I am so sorry your fabulous trip ended like this, but relieved and happy you are home again. You handled all the difficulties with grace and humour!
|
I read that alcohol sales have gone up 20% in the UK. I have not seen any figures for France.
|
kerouac Apparently alcohol sales are being restricted here in Australia. We are able to get priority for home delivery for groceries etc, yet this does not include alcohol. When receiving any alcohol you have to be able to sign for the delivery, and show id. Not possible for us at the moment.
Today we enter our sixth day of isolation. We are managing very well. If we need anything our daughter drops it off, and we wave and talk to her while she stands in the driveway. The Australian Government has developed a fabulous app for all things corona virus related. We have registered, and this means the government can track us through our phones, IPads etc. we are also expecting a visit by the AFP to see if we are home. We have been busy, gardening and doing household chores.. All the things that you never get time to do when working. The fridge has been cleaned out, cupboards tidied, all approved by our daughter before we do them. We wouldn’t do anything without talking to her first. We have recovered from our disappointment, and especially after receiving two emails from our landlords. Both enquired after our trip home and our health. They also mentioned how they enjoyed having us as tenants. The landlord in Nimes has moved back into the property and is looking forward to using the bbq we left for him. Our most lasting memories are, as well as visiting amazing places, the kindness and generosity of the French people towards us. France and the people will always have a special place in my heart. We will return to France at some stage for a 6-9 week road trip when all things have settled down. Not sure that life will be as we once knew it. I do have a lot of hope though, that through this terrible time, that all of us have become more caring and compassionate for other countries. |
Meanwhile in Paris, panic buying is no longer much of an issue, but deliveries to supermarkets are becoming more erratic. This will probably cause panic buying to start again...

kerouac oh my goodness. Similar things here. The other day I heard from friends that his 85 year old father in England had purchased 96 rolls of toilet paper over the last few weeks. The new inheritance maybe.
