Sachsenhausen

Hi

I will be at a conference next weeekend in Berlin and will have Sunday free.

For personal reasons I'd like to use that day to visit Sachsenhausen. I think I've figured out how to get there from the city but have been unable to find out if the camp and museum will be open to visitors.

Can anyone help me?

Rob

Rob,

according to their webpage ( http://www.brandenburg.de/land/mwfk/...senhausen.html, in German ), the museum is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ( except mondays ).

Hope that helps.

Regards, Jochen

Rob, if you have time to get to a good library (such as a university) before then, try looking for a book called "Hitler's Death Camps: The Sanity of Madness" by Konilyn G. Feig. It has chapters devoted to all major camps, chronicling their histories and current conditions (well at least conditions when she published the book in the 80's). Also, see if you can find a book giving a survivor's story from that particular camp to take along.

Dan

Thanks for your recommendations and suggestions.

It's all a very sad story. An old family friend died just over two years ago. He lost his brother at Sachsenhausen and spoke about him and the camp all his life. In fact it was such a huge part of his life

I always promised him that if I ever got the chance to get to Berlin I'd visit the camp and take some flowers and a few little things he left with me.

Can't tell you how pleased I am that it seems that access will be available on the Sunday.

Rob
