Because of the excellent articles that I posted on Saas Fee back in the AOL travel forums in 1998, 1999, 2000 and again in 2001, I am sure there was more interest generated in Saas Fee by English speaking tourist. You just might see more American, Canadian and other English speaking tourist there now. I still think that most Americans would rather do Zermatt than Saas Fee though.

My first trip there, I met 3 Americans in Saas Fee. There was an elderly couple and a young college age lady who?s Father worked close to Saas fee. Other than us 4, that was it.

As I said, I wrote some most excellent columns about Saas Fee on the old AOL travel forums. Because of those tremendously fine articles, I received many e-mails asking me about the various aspects of Saas Fee.

Too bad that I no longer have those articles. I'd be more than happy to share this GREAT information.

I hate it it that I forgot a lot of information. I threw out some maps of the area also.

Someone posted that the trails are more steeper and not to put words in anyone's mouths, but the trails are probably more rockier and rugged in spots than many of the BO trails.

You can certainly find that in many more advanced trails in the Jungfrau-Berneese Oberland area as well, but for the most part the trails and walking paths in the Berner Oberland are probaly more user and tourist freindly in my opinion!

You can find some safe trails in Saas Fee that offer the walker some good up hill workouts also. The main thing is getting some great views of the village and the area.

Be sure to get yourself a map from the tourist office just acrosss from the Post Bus station. It might cost you 10 francs or so, but they offer more detailed trail information than those freebie maps.

There are longer hikes also. The walk to Zermatt looks challenging. That was is like six hours or so.

Anyway, you'll find many great things to do there.

There are some nice hikes and walks in the neighboring villages of Saas Allmagel and Saas Grund as well.

Thanks again, everyone! Padams421 - I completely understand what you are saying and I do have that mental attitude.... My husband, however, is not quite there yet!! He thinks we're going to be able to hike and hike and hike without our son ever getting out. I'm just rolling with it until the first day of hiking and then he'll catch on too and we will have a great vaca after that point!! I think his denial comes from not spending all day every day with this beautiful little boy!!
