Hi bellastar,
No need to apologize. That sort of question is open to all. |
Thanks ira, I am another frequent visitor-in -all-seasons To the Amalfi Coast and Napoli, but didn't want to seem like I was invading Seaurchin's thread!
|
Thanks Bellestar & SeaUrchin for your helpful responses. Sounds like Amalfi may be it. I will be solo, dependent on public transpo & interested in day trips. Not looking for nightclubs but enjoy late night outdoor dining. Love ocean swimming so will look for good beaches. Suggestion for hotels? I have about 10 nights, would love an outdoor balcony with view of sea but do want to be near town to be"close to things within walking distance. Around 100.00 to 130.00 euros. Ideas? Thanks again...

Foodiern, if I were returning to the town of Amalfi solo I would probably choose to stay here:
www.rentvillas.com at the Casa Palladino As to hotels, what would be your price range? |
Villa San Michelle has beautiful rooms with private balconies overlooking the sea, and is a little hotel that sits between Amalfi and Ravello, built into the cliff just above the sea. Has it's own swimming cove.
The rooms are really beautiful because it's an old villa. There's restaurant and beautiful cliffside gardens. I think you might find the rates are within your price range. I stayed once in a double room, and was very happy there. Google for "Castiglione di Ravello and you'll easily bring up the website... It's about a 15 minute walk to Amalfi though. |
Hi Seaurchin, I have a question for you.
Traveling on the AMalfi Coast solo, what has been your experience in renting apartments. Can you suggest any good ways to look for an apartment as a solo traveler? For example, the Casa Palladino shows up as sleeping 4 people. How would you apprach the rental agent as a solo? Is this a problem at all? Thanks in advance, for any advice... |
Thanks so much for your replies...Villa San Michele sounds wonderful & I will look further into it. I am only concerned that I may feel a bit lonely in the PM & may be better in town itself. My price range for hotels would be no higher than 130Euro. Again I would love my own little terrace, with views of sea or even the city itself.
I plan on day trips & swimming in the ocean. Prefer sea over pool.. Of course I've even been looking at combining Trieste with Rojinv, Croatia! I need to get focused soon.. |
Foodiern, I really liked Rovinj and Trieste. I recommend you stay in the old town (Rovinj) and not at one of the big hotels on the other side of the harbor.

When I book an apartment for solo travel, I just book it and pay for it, the agencies don't care as long as you don't to over their occupancy limit for each apt. When an apt. says it sleeps four people, it has been my experience that it means two people in the bedroom and two people on a fold out couch. So it is easy for solo travel to have the one bedroom. Also I have found that if there are two bedrooms, one is usually alot nicer than the other with better views, balcony, etc., the second one is usually tiny.
Zee, I was staying near the Best Western Pasitea which looked like a great place to stay with semi private balconies and my same view. Foodiern, I will think it over about rec. a good hotel right in town with a balcony. I know of some right on the waterfront that don't seem to be expensive and you are right in town. |
thanks, seaurchin, that helps to clarify things alot!
|
Thanks SeaUrchin, look forward to your suggestions. Grasshopper, it may have been you who peaked my interest in Croatia. Although I realize Rojinv is not Almalfi, does it fit my needs of sea (for swimming), cafes w/ wonderful seafood, day time excursions, hotels within easy walking distance to town? Also seems a bit more complicated to reach. Appreciate any feedback, Thanks

Here are some hotels I have seen and have sea views from the rooms:
Hotel Aurora Hotel La Bussola (both can be seen at www.italyby.com) Hotel Lidomare: lidomare.it Hotel Fontana: hotel-fontana.it Hotel Marina Riviera: you can look at tripadvisor.com for reviews Have fun researching! |
another website for hotel rooms with balconies and seaviews
www.venere.it and to look for apartments with sea views www.summerinitaly.com As others already suggested, check the reviews for all the places you choose, as sometimes you can't tell from the outside what a stay in a place is really like. |
