S. Kensington London Restaurants
Any recommendations for unfussy, reasonably priced restaurants (not over $150 for 2 persons) in the Kensington area?
|
Your title says South Kensington while your post says Kensington (they are not the same). I assume you are asking for places near your hotel -- so which is it/where are you staying?

Our hotel is the Pelham at 15 Cromwell Place in South Kensington. I am not familiar with London sections and figured South Kensington would be south of Kensington!
Still, any restaurant recommendations in either South K or K? Nothing fussy or fancy - Carol |
If you like Indian food, try Moti Mahal.

One would think so -- but ain't the case ;) One of the best places to eat quite near your hotel is actually in the V&A - nice lunches. But there are just tons of places near the S. Kens tube station along Old Brompton Rd or east along Cromwell Road and all the way to Harrods/Knighstbridge. |
Thanks, everyone!

We were there in April and stayed at the Rembrandt across from V&A. We also liked Daquise and had good Indian food at Khan of Kensington which was packed with diners. It had a Trip Advisor sticker on the front window--if that really means anything.

I'll second Khan's of Kensington. Very good Indian food. We were there a few weeks ago.

One of the best meals our family had was in the bar/lounge at at the Rembrandt. Really. Our flight was delayed 5 hours and it was 7:30 before we all got checked in. We were exhausted, and I didn't want to start wandering South Kensington for a place that would seat 8 people as well as having discussions about what everyone wanted to eat. Staying at the Rembrandt and seeing that their bar menu had something for everybody, it was the best option. Surprising good.
We also liked Bombay Brasserie. I had booked Khan's but after a quick peek inside while out sightseeing, I wasn't impressed. My restaurant karma just wasn't working, but it does get very good ratings. The B.B. might be a bit more expensive but it does have a very nice ambience and the food was great. My son can attest to the fact that their mango margaritas are excellent. |
Khan's doesn't have a spectacular interior (Bombay Brasserie's looks very nice...we almost chose it), but the food certainly is terrific at Khan's. We had a number of dishes, each one very good. There were a number of people of Indian descent dining there, so I assume that says something, too. Staff was very welcoming and even invited Tracy back to see the kitchen.

The Pelham is a great choice. I have stayed there a number of times. Perfect location across the street from the South Kensington Underground station. Started out as a Firmdale Hotel and is beautifully decorated.
I would recommend Orsini's, a small family owned place with terrific food and Just a few blocks from the Pelham. |
We enjoyed another Indian restaurant that is in S. Kens., the Delhi Brasserie on Cromwell Road. (Disclaimer: we are not knowledgeable about Indian food.)
