S. Italy or Spain?

We're doing a 2 week trip in September... the first week we are going to do a couple cities in Eastern Europe, and the other week we are going to do either Spain (Ibiza, Barcelona, who knows) or Sicily and southern Italy. We've already been ALL over northern Italy (venice, CT, siena, florence, rome) and LOVED it so we were hoping Sicily would be even more of what we love... but we've never been to Spain. This is probably an extremely vague question, but has anyone been to both places and can somehow compare (even though they are obviously completely different locations?) If this is impossible to answer, my apologies

Siena, Florence, and Rome are NOT "northern" Italy!

Hey, THANKS for giving me some great input. I'll clarify so not to confuse anyone - those were cities in cetral and northern Italy. I wouldn't want anyone thinking there were to places in Italy named Rome or anything...

Seriously people, I just want some advice/ help, I think many of you that use this site have some great travel advice.

A few years back I went to Hungary, Czech Republic, and Austria. We had a car and drove in a big circle. Picked up in Vienna and returned it in Innsbruck then took the train down to Italy and got another car. Logistically it was fantastic. Would you fly to Sicily, drive, train? I have not been to Sicily but I have been to Spain and just got back from Amalfi Coast and I say unless you are flying, for a 2 week trip, Spain is a stretch and the Amalfi Coast is great. Take it for what it's worth.

7 days in Sicily is cutting it short, but it's better than no time. If you did that I'd say 4 in Taormina, 3 in Palermo. Type Sicily into the box, there's been a lot of recent posts about it. I haven't been to Spain yet, so I can't comment. I think a lot of this depends on exactly where you will be the first week, and where you can fly direct to.

if you have been to the carribean, dont come to spain for the beaches. some are pictoresque, and have lovely secluded coves, but those aren't the ones you cmoe across easily.

september however is a good month for everything in spain as it is not the height of tourist season, but weather is still good, and you will have fewer problems finding lodging.

from italy there are several low cost flights to spain from various airports.
check out www.whichbudget.com.

i do like ibiza, but i also like menorca.
have never been to sicily buti understand it is very unique.

go with your instincts/ comfort. either trip will be great. so much history and beauty.

I love both Sicily and Spain. I think you can't go wrong with either one. But if I had to choose, I would go back to Sicily in a minute for the food, the people, the history.

You are fortunate to have such a wonderful decision to make!
