Ryna Air and luggage
Does Ryan Air check luggage or is it pretty much all carry on? How much dragging luggage around is involved in flying them?
|
Ryan Air - like most other bargain airlines - strictly limts the amount of luggage you can bring on the plane. The allowed weights of carry-on and checked luggage are both tiny (in comparison to us airlines) - I don;t know exactly what they are at the moment - but check carefully. Also they charge a lot for anything over the tiny weight limits - and if the plane is full - your luggage may not even make it on.

I flew Ryanair last week. It's 15kg checked luggage + 5 kg carry on. More checked luggage is quite expensive. I'm sure you can find the prices on the Ryanair website.
|
5kg for carry-on? The RyanAir website says that the carry-on limit is 10kg. Has that changed?
|
Sharon, you are right. It's 10 kilos for hand luggage, 15 for checked lugage. I fly with them about once a month - I have touble keeping my handbag under 5 kilos LOL.

It has been my impression - - based on five Ryanair flights, from Stansted(2), Prestwick, Dublin and Graz - - that the checking of baggage weight is more consistent and strict at Stansted than at the smaller "satellite" locations from/to which Ryanair flies.
As other answers have already attested, no location will fail to offer you the option of checking one (or two) bag(s) weighing up to 15 kg, for free. Best wishes, Rex |
Thanks Kate. Since I plan on flying RyanAir from Rome to Paris in a few weeks I'm particularly interested in squeezing every bit of poundage I can into my luggage.

It's best to just check the website for their terms and do what you can to stick within those weight guidelines. If you're over the allowance, they may not do anything about it but you should go with the expectation that you will be charged for being over the weight allowance.
I think their allowance is generous enough but for people that want to transport the same luggage they've brought to Europe from the US, they may need to be a bit careful. |
If they are restricting the checked luggage to 15 Kilos then they are NOT in line with other intra-European carriers..the usual checked allowance is 20 Kilos (even on EasyJet).
