Rye or Arundel? Which would be the best?
On our last night in England we thought we would stay outside of London, someplace not too far from the airport. We are thinking about Arundel or Rye. From what I have read both seem like charming, small towns but, since I haven't been to either I wondered if someone could tell us which would be the best one and why?

Thanks,
Craig

I've been to both. For me, the only purpose of going to Arundel is to see the castle, not walk through the town. The castle tour is great. On the other hand, if you prefer walking the streets, browsing around the shops, Rye is the place to go. If your last night is a Sunday, you'd better check on what's open on Sundays. If I had to choose between the two, I would head to Arundel and check out the castle, assuming it's open.
Shannon

I have been to both several times. As I said both are lovely. Rye is more unusual - being a seaport that is now about 2.5 miles inland. But Arundel is one of the most fascinating castles in the country and St Nicholas Church should not be missed.

So comparing the two and figuring the much easier drive to LGW, I definitely recommend Arundel.

Shannon,

What information are you talking about?
If anyone knows why Rye would be a better town to visit could you please let us know? Did Charles Dicken's used to live there? I thought I read something someplace that there was a museum there about him.
Thanks,
Criag
