Ryanair or railpass?
My boyfriend and I will be traveling to Europe in June for 18 days. We will be flying out of Boston to London for 2 nights.
From London we will take the chunnel to Paris for 2 nights. Off we go to Nice for 3 nights.... Cinque Terre for 2 nights... Train to Venice for 2 nights.... Florance-2 nights? Siena-2 nights? last night in Rome and off to the airport! We were quoted 198.00 for a railpass from Paris to Venice. Are we better off using Ryanair? Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks! |
Hi Paula,
Go to www.railsaver.com and enter your itinerary. They will tell you if a railpass will save money. Also check www.volareweb for flights from Paris to Venice. They will be less than $198 pp. |
Paula, try Volare airlines at volare.web and also the French railway website at sncf.com for some great overnight train fares from Paris to Venice. Have a great trip!!! Mike

Ira, thanks as it is www.volareweb.com Mike

Hi Ira! Im sorry-the 198.00 was from Paris to Nice (128.00)
Nice to LaSpezia (33.00) LaSpezia to Venice (37.00) Do you think that is a good deal or should I check out flights? I haven't checked out how long all this is going to take. I plan on just taking in the sights and taking my time. I have already spent time in London so I won't be busy seeing all the sights. Thanks! |

I think you should fly Easyjet Paris CDG to Nice (and also possibly from London Luton to CDG), hard to beat their prices. Look into getting just a rail pass for the Italy portion of your trip.
Only 1 night in Rome?? I'd skip Nice and add the extra days to London, Paris, or Rome. |
if you buy the rail pass you'll also get a discount on your chunnel tickets.

Hi Paula,
I wonder why you are allowing only 2 nights to Paris, but 3 to Nice and 2 to Siena. If your idea is to do Italy, go to Italy and skip Paris and Nice this trip. |
Hi Ira- Do you think I have too much on my plate for 18 days?
|
Frankly since you seem concerned about the cost as well as the number of places, I'd fly Easy Jet from London to Nice and cut out Paris. You're spending too much time and money to go there for two nights (one day) when you have so much more to do. I'd add them both to Rome.

Hi Paula,
>Do you think I have too much on my plate for 18 days?< Well, you could do it. If you take lots of movies you might even remember some of it. I think you are doing too much packing an unpacking. If you already have your tickets into London and out of Rome, I suggest Fly into London, 4 nights Train to Paris, 4 nights, Fly to Venice on Volare 2-3 nights(www.volareweb.com) Train to Florence 3-4 nights Train to Rome Train schedules for Italy are at www.trenitalia.com/en Eurostar tickets to Paris are at www.eurostar.com Hope this helps |
Where do these numbers come from? The SNCF web site quotes a fare of 98 euros from Paris to Nice.

I went to railsaver. Do you know how long the trip is from Paris to Nice? I'm still not sure how we want to spend our time in Italy. Since I have been to London before, maybe I'll skip it.
