Ryanair Baggage Allowance Question
 

We'll be flying Ryanair for the first time and I've heard they are very strict with baggage allowances. We purchased tickets with 20 Kilos for the first bag. Are we allowed to check 2 bags each up to this weight, or is the total weight between the 2 bags 20 Kilos? Or are we allowed 20 Kilos for the first bag and 15 for the second? Any help is appreciated. I did read that, but still am not sure.
This is what it says "Each passenger may check in up to two checked bags upon payment of the applicable checked baggage fees by electing to purchase a checked baggage allowance of either 15 kilos or 20 kilos when make their initial booking." We elected for 20 kilos, so my question remains is that 20 kilos per bag, or a total of 20 kilos. Has anyone had personal experience? Thank you.

We had one bag weighing 17 kilos. We had only paid for 15 kilos. Had to put the offending 2 kilos in our large jacket pockets or pay a ridiculous fine.

Micheline - I wonder if you had 2 bags and your 17 kilos were split between them, if they would have charged you a fine? Trying to find a contact email address for Ryanair.

I have flown Ryanair. You are allowed a total of 20kg, if that is what you paid for, which can be split between two bags. NOT 20kg x 2 bags = 40kg.

At check-in excess baggage fees are steep.

If you look at the table of baggage charges at http://www.ryanair.com/en/terms-and-...ns-tableoffees, it's clear that you are only allowed to check in one bag up to 20kg for the fee you've paid. If you want to check in two bags, you have to pay extra, even within the combined weight of 20kg. Where they say each passenger is permitted to check in up to two bags, it doesn't mean you can have two bags within the combined weight you paid for, but they are stating an absolute rule they won't accept more than 2 bags per passenger even if you are willing to pay extra.

Be very careful with this, as even if you have just one checked bag and, say, two carry-ons for the both of you, if they declare one of your carry-ons exceeds size and/or weight limit, then you are forced to check that in as well and you will be charged crippling on-airport fee, which can be up to £85 or 85 euro.

We just flew Ryan air with the extra baggage up to 20 kg...It was 1 bag only per person. My bag was 21 kg and he let it go. My husband's was 23 and we had to pay $60 for his extra kgs. (We were flying Morocco to Italy). That was the same amount as his orginal ticket price. Hand luggage was not weighed, and had we thought quicker I could have taken a few tings out of his suit case and squeezed in into our hand luggage, thus avoiding the extra charge. It is still a bargin....

We also did the priority boarding and ended up with no one between us.

carry-on SIZE is REALLY important.some luggage people THINK is within the limits, have a problem because the WHEELS do not allow the bag to drop into the metal bag measurer.. 40E at gate if not more.

They have a whole additional hand luggage inspection at boarding gate.(JFYI)

Also remember tat you can't pool the allowance - so if one bag only ways 15kg but the other weighs 23 you will be charged for the overweight on that bag.
I thought the T&C was very clear, but maybe I am just used to reading such things.
