RyanAir -- Is a purse / briefcase a "carry-on"??
I know that sometimes RyanAir can be strict about luggage. Their rules state: "Ryanair allows each passenger (excluding infants) to carry one small piece of hand baggage on board. The hand baggage must not weigh more than 10kg and be less than 55cm x 40cm x 20cm, in dimensions."
Does anyone know if a purse (or briefcase/laptop) is considered the "one piece"; or does the restriction refer to a small piece of luggage and a personal item like purse (or briefcase/laptop) can be carried on in addition?

I have no expierence with Ryanair, but I recently had a flight with SWISS and they prevented all passangers with a extra laptop-suitcase to enter the plane at the gate.
The passangers were forced to hand-over one peace of handluggage to the baggage-section of the airplane, before they could enter the plane.

Tom, I'd welcome it if all airlines did this.
There have been a number of times where I have been forced to sit with my carry on luggage because the overhead lockers are full of a 10KG bag, a laptop or briefcase, a large handbag, and a bag or two of Duty free, all belonging to one passenger.
On empty flights, then nobody would mind a little leeway, but some people just take advantage of the system.

The purse (assuming it is a modest size) or a camera or a coat is usully considereda personal object- not carry-on. But a large purse (tote bag) or laptop or full size briefcase woudl be a carry-on.
(What you do is put this inside your regular carry-on - so it counts as only one object.)
