Ryan Air is Great!
 

We flew Ryan Air from Pisa to Brussels last week. I just wanted to say it was a very pleasant experience. We had been in Florence for a week and wanted to get to Belgium for a week. The flight was 39 euros plus a minimal booking fee. That was one way since we were flying home to U.S. from Belgium. The flight left on time, arrived on time and was very inexpensive. I had read that luggage weight would be a problem so we were prepared to pay but they didn't charge either of us and we were both way over the allowed weight. The flight did not land at the main Brussels airport - instead it was in Charleroi but Ryan Air had a nice bus available for 6 euros that dropped us at one of the train stations in Brussels . They have these scheduled to leave 30 minutes after each flight - so by the time you get your luggage- you're ready to go.<BR> I just want to thank Rex for encouraging me to try Ryan Air- I will definitely use them again.<BR> <BR>

A British air traffic controler contacted the media in the UK to say that the pilots of a certain budget airline are cutting corners with safety. Apparently, they sometimes ignore instructions from air traffic in order to land their aircraft on time. The budget airline was not named but it was a big story in the UK

The airline was named as Ryan Air in the articles I have seen printed in newspapers here.<BR><BR>Ryan Air spokesmen refuted the claims that safety has been compromised.<BR><BR>Who knows the real story?<BR><BR>Certainly I have read that Ryan Air use much older aircraft than other airlines but this in itself means nothing, the maintainence quality would be more relevant.<BR><BR>The article about air traffic control said that pilots ignored instructions on speeds coming in, and argued with traffic control over visibility and weather (where air traffic control made the decision it was not good enough for landing). This is apparently because of the pressure to get more flights in on time.<BR><BR>I'd be interested in any additional info anyone has seen, along with a source.<BR><BR>I read this information in Evening Standard and a broadsheet I found on the train, I think it was Guardian but I cant remember.

Kavey, that "Ryanair ignores traffic control and is a threat in the airspace" was yesterday also on main TV-news in Finland.

We flew Ryan Air last week from Rome to London. It was great, on time, etc. Transportation to airports not a problem. Four of us flew for about $96. Would definitely fly this airline again.<BR>Pam B.

glad to hear the happy trip reports about Ryan...we are booked on them from Edinburgh to Dublin in September. It was really cheap, like 10 GBP for each of us

I understand that Ryanair was not mentioned in the Air traffic Control report.No definite airline was mentioned.<BR>I flew on them last month from Stanstead to Dublin for $90 return in a beautiful new Boeing.I understand they have 100 more on order.

I've flown Ryanair from London to Brussels, Malmo, Genoa and Pisa and had no problems. They're phasing in brand new Boeing 737-800s (first flown in 1998) so the old aircraft story is an old story...

Ryanair have a much better safety record than BA, Aer Lingus, BMI and most other airlines.<BR><BR>This is the silly season for UK papers - this story is based on an unsubstantited claim on an internet sight and I for one suspect British"dirty tricks" Airways or their fans are behind it.<BR><BR>I feel much more safe on Ryanair than any other airline. They seem obsessive about cabin safety and security. In fact I would be happy to pay a premium to fly with them(but luckily I don't have to).<BR><BR>Ryanair are so successful that all of the other airlines are praying for them to fail.<BR><BR>KEEP FLYING RYANAIR - DON'T LET THE B******DS WIN - <BR><BR>PS BA m/week fares to Paris have just been reduced by &pound;500 - do you think they were taking us for a ride before Ryanair came along ?

Wasn't Ryan air the one where the pilot couldn't land in bad weather because he wasn't trained to and had to be diverted to another airport that had good weather. Personally, their prices are good, but I am still a little scared of the gung ho approach.
