Ryan Aer Lingus?

Surprised to hear Ryan Air is apparently on the verge of buying Ireland's National Carrier, Aer Lingus - i guess it's wag the tale time?

Why fight for transatlantic routes and landing slots, if you can just buy them.

The landscape ("oceanscape"?) is about to change...

Best wishes,

Rex

Aer Lingus completed its privatization last week. And Ryanair already owns about 20% of its stock. The board rejecting the offer simply means the offering price is not high enough.

If Ryanair continues to buy enough of EI's stock or increase its offer enough, a purchase can definitely go through.

Ryanair's capitalization is about 4 times that of Aer Lingus, and the two have few competing routes. While their local opposition, I think enough Irish people will see this as a good thing, with their little country having one of the most powerful and highest-capitalized airline in the world.
