Russian Visa Application Changes/Private Visa as of 1 July 2011

Greetings,

We received notice that as of July 1, 2011, at least the NY Consulate will only accept applications filled out electronically. The questions are the same as before; however, there is a question regarding "Appointment Date and Time" which is unclear (and hopefully we will have clarification before July 1). As before, all applications must be submitted in person or by an authorized visa processing agency.

There is a control number generated during the application process; it is not printed on the application, but there is a bar code appearing on the application so it is probably a unique number.

At least now each person filling out the application needs to create a log-in for the website.

The following notice appears on the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in New York's website:

ATTENTION:
EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2011, ALL APPLICATIONS FOR RUSSIAN VISAS SUBMITTED IN THE UNITED STATES SHOULD BE PREPARED USING THE ELECTRONIC VISA APPLICATION FORM WHICH IS A WEB-BASED APPLICATION, AVAILABLE ONLINE AT

RUSSIAN VISA APPLICATIONS PREPARED USING THE OLD FORMAT OR IN A DIFFERENT WAY WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AFTER JULY 1, 2011.

In addition, there are some changes regarding the application process for private visas when invited by a spouse and when traveling together.

See

for further information.

I believe the New York Chinese Consulate is doing the same thing.

We got caught up July 1-5 in the rollout and with the system crashing and other issues considered it was worth cancelling our tickets rather than go through this visa process. It took me 10 days to finish the visa working on it constantly.

Our visa service had no idea what Appointment Date meant but I filled it out as if I were bringing the visa to the consulate on that date. FYI the date info does not print out on the form.

In filling out the form all addresses info needs to be on one line or the 2nd line of the address will not print out on the form.

In printing the form, ensure the form is inclosed in the box and the length is 11 inches. Our visa got hung up due to the width of box lines, which unfortunatly is not a user issue.

The word "patromoynic" means middle name.

It will also ask what city you are submitting your visa, and some consulate cities have different requirements, ie, visa form submitted front and back versus 2 pages and picture requirements are different also, so check that also.
