Russia St. Pete to Moscow train
What is the best way to buy tickets for the high speed train from St. Petersburg to Moscow? I see different vendors and just want to be sure that we don't have any problems once in Russia. Traveling the 2nd week of August.

Just an aside--I assume you already have Russian visas. You'll need them.
I took the Allegro from Helsinki to St. Petersburg. It was pleasant and fast. |
Thanks yes. We have hotels, visas, flights. Only leg is St. Pete to Moscow and everyone tells me the best way to go is the train.

Hi! I'm from Moscow.
So, you can travel by airplane or by fast train. Cost is almost the same. By plane is 40 min-1hr flight + 1.5-2 hrs check-in and etc. But then in Moscow you have to take Aeroexpress (train from airport to the city) - it takes 40 min. So in total it will be near 3.5-4 hrs. By train is about 4 hrs. You can check and buy tickets here - http://pass.rzd.ru/timetable/public/...dt1=18.07.2015 You need trains with travel time 3.5-4 hrs (for example #755, 763, 765, 769, 747 and etc). Train arrives to the city centre. |
FWIW: When I visited Russia back in 1994, residents of St. Petersburg had only recently been given the opportunity to call their beloved city by its original name, rather than calling it Leningrad. It was something that meant a great deal to them. Maybe that has changed, but just in case, you might consider thinking of St. Pete as the place in Florida, not the place in Russia....
