Rue Vaugirard vs. Rue Jacob
 

Hi - I am finalizing hotel choices for an upcoming trip. I am leaning towards a hotel on Rue Vaugirard near Luxembourg Gardens. The 2nd hotel is on Rue Jacob, which I hear is a very pretty street. If I go with the Rue Vaugirard choice, is it a long walk to restaurants, cafes, etc. I'd like to be able to walk out my door and have good choices nearby.

There are a lot of restaurants near rue vaugirard, if that is your worry. My preference is rue jacob, I love that street, I have noticed it is changing a bit, more and more shops now with food. I started staying on Rue Jacob at Hotel du danube 6 years ago, I have stayed there 9 different times. I love rue jacob!

pj and I have the same love. We've stayed at the Danube at least 10 times. There are numerous good restaurants in the area, a laundromat, pretty shops and very good transportation. It is also walking distane to Notre Dame, Louvre, D'Orsay, Rodin, Branley, Champs .

I love the rue Jacob location. Have stayed between it and Blvd. St. Germain for around 30 years. Happy Travels!

I certainly wouldn't classify Rue Jacob as a very pretty street. I love the nabe, but I think the street is dark and narrow. There are lots of nice shops on Rue Jacob, like Laduree.

I would prefer to stay near the Luxembourg Gardens. Rue Vaugirard is much wider than Rue Jacob. The buildings aren't so close together and allows for more light.

I don't think you could go wrong with either location; both are centrally located and close to many, many restaurants, shops, etc. Rue Jacob is nearer the Seine, but rue Vaugirard is right by the Luxembourg Gardens, which were abloom earlier this week with spring flowers, chestnut trees, etc.

you are in an area with restaurants all over the place and within a few blocks. This is the center of Paris.

I don't think rue Jacob is particularly pretty, either, I would much prefer the Vaugirard location for lots of reasons.

I've stayed at the Danube on rue Jacob and thought it was great. However, I prefer the Vaugirard location; it just feels a little more relaxing to me and I'd love to stay by the gardens.

Both are nice areas for a Paris visit.

I would choose rue Vaugirard instantly. Rue Jacob is cramped and too much in the St. Germain money ghetto.
