Rue Jacob street market
 

Does anyone know what days the street market is?

I've stayed in that area many times. If there is a street market on Rue Jacob it's news to me. We are talking about Paris, right?

Maybe sjde53 is referring to the rue Buci street market that's close to the rue Jacob?

Ah, didn't think of that. But meanwhile, I think the Rue Buci market is almost non-existent any more. There are a few open stores and they set out some fruit and vegetable stands, but that's about it. Sunday is the only day I think they don't open. It really isn't much of a market as far as Paris markets go.

There's more to it than just a few fruit store/stand. There are also a couple of meat and fish stores that also serve delicious cooked and prepared foods to take out, a few boulangeries, a coffee/tea store, a couple of wine shops (that sucks) and the Champion supermarket for sundries and other things that you might have forgotten to bring with you.

It's not in the same size and scope as the rue Moufettard (sp) outdoor market, but there's enough there to call it "the market" at rue Buci.

Totally true -- but these are permanent stores with open doors to the sidewalks.
And the Champion and a couple other places to set some tables out onto the sidewalks daily. But it is a far cry from the atmosphere generally regarded as a "street market" where things are set up on the street such as farmer's stands, handicrafts, etc.

Maybe I misread the question, but I assumed sjde53 was looking for the atmosphere of a traditional street market, not just a place to shop for some food stuffs. And by asking which days it takes place also indicated that the poster was looking for something other than a regular street where one can buy food.

I recall mornings being the best time to see the street market at rue de Buci. But I agree it's not much and you would be better off going to rue Mouffetard. I understand that some feel that the rue Mouffetard is touristy, but it's still frequented by many locals. It's a very picturesque street and I am sure you'll enjoy that better than the rue de Buci street market. If you go to rue Mouffetard visit the St. Medard Church which is located at the end of the street.

There are "street markets" and then there are "market streets".
The first kind is the type that sets up in an empty space a couple of times a week. The second kind is a small street of permanent stores that pull merchandise out onto the sidewalk. They're open every day, except maybe late Sunday or on Mondays.
