From personal experience (Thanksgiving 1994), another fine choice on Rue Jacob: the Hotel Deux Continents.

I stayed at the 4* Golden Tulip Cayre at 4 boulevard Raspail about 1.5 years ago. It is less than a block to the Rue de Bac metro station, has good sized and recently-remodeled rooms, and had a great buffet spread at breakfast. But I also got a deal on the room ($125/night, I believe)
