Rue du Roi Dore
 

Hi,
Does anyone know anything about this street or area of Paris? It's in the 3eme (Marais). We are a family of 4, two adults and 2 teens and I've decided to rent an apartment at #2 rue du roi dore. Of course now I'm filled with concern about this venture and I'm wondering if we should have simply booked a hotel! This will be our first time in Paris....Thanks for any advice.

I don't know what you are concerned about.

I just remember the following happened in august 2005. There has been a fire in the rue du Roi-Doré. An old house, squattted by africans, burned down. The public authorities opened an enquiry for voluntary destruction by fire causing death of the inhabitants.

But the area in itself is safe. I stayed around the Place des Vosges earlier this year and there is no concern on security at all.

That's the place alright. Of course I'm not paying that amount. As you can see, there are no reviews of it yet. It's not even the apartment I had originally thought I wanted to rent. The company presented it to me as a better alternative to my choice. They're really pushing hard to rent it so they gave me a reduced rate which wasn't less than a nearby hotel but it was very very close with the bonus of all that room. With sometimes moody teens who sometimes want nothing to do with us, space can make or break a vacation! Plus, we'd decided to splurge since it'll probably be our last family vacation in a long long time. So... I started to worry that I made a colossal mistake. Thanks for helping to ease some of my concerns!

the Marais is also a great neighborhood.

I think you will really enjoy having an apartment instead of a hotel. We recently rented a (much less luxurious) apartment in Rome with our (sometimes moody) teenage son and we all enjoyed having the extra space, getting to know the neighborhood, preparing a few simple meals and having snacks on hand.

that is a great neighborhood. we have stayed in a flat nearby. shopping on rue bretagne is wonderful (and reasonable). you are also close to the 96 bus which runs down rue de turenne and over to the 5th/6th arr.

you'll love paris. have fun!

Nice place. The area you are in is quite nice, good shopping, lots of restaurants, many old buldings/mansions around. Metro is about 3 blocks form your street. To get to ceontral Paris will need to do one transfer (or walk down to Sully Normand or St Paul station. There are also street markets in the area.

You will want to hang in the Place des Vosges, it is fantastic.
Carnavalet and Picasso museums are a walk away. I did both of the Paris Walks tours of the Marais, you might want to consider these as an intro to your neighbourhood.
