rue de buci
 

Hello, I am trying to sort out a projected itinerary for Paris. We want to browse the rue de Buci and Viaduct des Artes markets. Would they be open 7 days a week or perhaps I should plan on them being closed Sun and or Mon? A

Some things will be open in both places and some will be closed.

The Viaduc des Arts can be easily browsed even if the shops are closed.

What are you looking for? I much prefer the rue Daguerre or rue Mouffetard markets to the Buci. Rue de Buci is a short street with shops and restaurants but not many vendor stalls. When I was there last fall there was a flower stand and one or two produce stands.

Instead of rue de Buci, which as a previous poster said has very few stalls, you could do the Richard Lenoir market and combine it with the Viaduct des arts and the Promenade Plantee. The market is on Thus and Sunndays. The shops along the Viaduct really aren't that interesting IMO, except for the hand laundry and the china painting.The promenade sits atop the viaduct.

This is very helpful input. I am taking my two nieces to Paris, age 20 and 22 in Sept and I asked them each individually to come up with a list of 5 things they wanted to do in Paris so it didn't seem like I was dragging them around. I was pleased with the effort they put in and came up with things I had not even thought of including there two places. Since I really like to see as many gardens as poss I was happy about finding the Prom Plantee. The niece who chose rue de Buci loves handmade and unique crafts like jewllery and clothing and fresh fruit and vegies so I was assuming that was the kind of stuff we would see at Buci, I will look up these other markets. Thanks for the input. A

If your niece is interested in hand crafted jewelry and the arts, every Sat there is a market in the same place as the Sunday Food market at Pl Bastille. I've purchased some really nice pieces there.

There is a store either on rue de Buci or on St Andre des Arts that sells very interesting glass jewelry and they have a good selection. I was tempted by some earings but passed them up as I was in frugal mode. The store is on the right side of the street as you're walking toward the Seine and place St-Michel.

For a second there, I thought a rebellion against Saint Germain-des-Prés had finally begun.

The "Bastille" Sunday market is quite large - we really enjoyed that one. I didn't realize there was an 'arts' market at the same place on Saturdays, sounds fun. I've been through the 'Marche de Creation' arts market at blvd Edgar Quinet (Sunday mornings) - a mildly interesting diversion.

<b>Ashjen</b>, you might wander from the Prom Plantee over to the Marche d'Aligre - definitely the 'flea' market variety, fun 'junque' to dig through. I bought some old sheet music and have used it in my scrapbooking as background. The main part is a covered food market, operates 6 days/week.

This is my neighborhood and the rue Buci is only 2 blocks long. What are you looking for? One part of the rue Buci is filled with food-related places...bakery,deli,supermarket etc...and the first part, off of Blvd. St. Germain has a few boutiques and a hotel. People usually go to that area of the 6th to explore the whole area, not just for rue Buci. Happy Travels!
