Rue de Bac
 

We are looking to rent an apartment in Rue de Bac in September through Paris Left Bank Rental. Has anyone used this agency before? This area looks convenient for us. The other option I like is Ile St. Louis. We want a 1 bedroom apartment, balcony would be nice. Approximately 1500 Euro per week

Haven't used that agency, but either of those locations would be lovely (and convenient).

I would kill for an apartment on Ile St. Louis. Ok - maybe not kill - but what a fabulous place to stay!

So would I, Margie. Although I recently read the new translation of Zola's <i>Le Cur&eacute;e</i>, in which one of the main characters grew up on the Ile St. Louis. His description of the house made it sound very dreary--and damp!

We have made reservations for an apartment on Petit Pont with France Homestyle (www.francehomestyle.com) with a balcony and the view of Notre Dame for June 2005 (currently for $1600 per week) first time with this company and hoping for the best - the pictures look great. Check their website, nice people on the phone.

I love the street, it is good that it is on the courtyard, it is a busy street. The area is perfect, that street takes you from the Seine to Blvd St Germain.
The apt is tiny but bigger than a hotel room! even more convenient than the Ille St Louis, which I love and if I could, I would live on forever!!
( OK, I am being too dramatic)
The price seems very good too ..

In November, we stayed at the Hotel Pont Royal on Montalembert just off Rue de Bac in the 7th. A grand location to be sure, with great public transportation. Gradyghost

Thank you for your tip on Francehomestyle. I have booked the Petit Pont apartment that you suggested in Paris, let me know how it is.

Merrill, the Petit Pont apartment is as pictured. It was a bit smaller that we are used to but the view of Notre Dame was awesome. Marie Noelle is very personable. The a/c worked fine which we needed - temp was 90+ degrees for most days. The only problem we had was the elevator - out of order for at least four days. The regular tenants were not very happy either &quot;pas normale&quot;. Forturnately, we are healthy enough to be able to take the stairs - 75 steps to the sixth floor plus 13 inside the apartment to the seventh. Allowed us to eat more cheese. We received a rebate due to this problem from France Homestyle - very appreciated.

We stayed in a hotel on Rue de bac and after one day we felt like it was our own neighborhood. So incredibly easy to access everything, but not nearly as touristy as some of the surrounding areas. We loved it.

I am commenting about the street. I really like rue du Bac. It's got nice, small neighborhood shops and restaurants. And it's a calm area, very Parisian.

I lived &quot;round the corner&quot;. Great area though rue du bac is a main street. It is only 2 lanes so there isn't huge street noise. Obviously, I am very fond of the neighborhood.

We were wandering Rue du Bac in July of this year, and stumbled on a charming shop, which I'd like to recommend. One of those shops whose window displays pull across the tiny road: Magna Carta, at 101 Rue du Bac. It's essentially a very fine &quot;papergoods&quot; shop - stationery, intricate paper gift bags, etc, but one of the nicest uses of paper: Papier Mache creations by a particular artist - I purchased 3 chickens which perch on a shelf - each hen is from a different french newspaper, Octavie (the co-owner with her husband Paul) explained to me the political commentary built into the selection of which hen is in which paper. Everyone in my office was very taken by that and other items I bought from her when they were shipped to me, and my husband loves them too - a real coup: cross-gender appeal! The same artist has a number of other items, all very different, and all of a quality that no grade schooler ever attempted!
Anyway, it's a real find of a shop, the owners are delightful, and it's very off-the-beaten, as indicated in these other posts.
Question to sandi_travelnut, in case she checks back here: my husband walks around St Germain des Pres, reciting over and over: &quot;this is my neighborhood&quot;, but I agree that the Rue du Bac area is very charming. Some of St Germain was pretty crazy this trip. I don't recall seeing any hotels there - do you recommend the one you used, and do you recall the name?

Jo Ann, we stayed at Hotel St. Germain, 88 Rue de Bac. Loved the hotel.
