Royal Monceau Re-Opens in Paris

...and it sounds odder than ever! (Of course F. Scott Fitzgerald nailed it when he said "the rich are different".)

Thanks for the interesting link. Perhaps Scott meant the rich are different in that they never seem to ask, "Is it worth it?"

LOL, Dukey1, your point is exquisitely expressed, as usual!

Ahh, the Royal Monceau. We had a friend who worked for the World Bank and that's where they always put him up on his travels to Paris. We dine with him at Il Carpaccio a couple of times, it was pleasant.

I think the renovation is ok, not really to my taste but I've seen worse. On trips where we don't have Raisin along, our first choice would be the Hotel Keppler, http://www.keppler.fr/en/ and for trips with the cocker, we now prefer the MGallery Baltimore (our old favorite, Sofitel Le Parc, is now part of the Starwood Group) but would like to try the renoved Hotel du Bois one of these days: http://www.hoteldubois.com/uk/index.php

I stayed in the original Raffles in Singapore three times and at the Strand in Rangoon once, so that's already enough of the Raffles group for me!

Hi Du,

>Perhaps Scott meant the rich are different in that they never seem to ask, "Is it worth it?"

Perhaps the lazy, idle, self-indulgent children of Russian oligarchs, Saudi princes, and assorted drug dealers, but most rich folks of my acquaintance are concerned about "is it worth it".

That's why I won't be staying at the RM. I am not enamored of those sorts of people.

((I))
No, cost has nothing to do with it. I could easily afford the price of a year's tuition for my grandkids for a night's stay, but I'm too frugal.
