Royal carriages

On one of my visits to London I visited the "garage" where the royal carriages were kept--it was really like a museum. It also housed some of the police horses. Can anyone tell me what it is called and its location? Thanks

The Royal Mews?

Yes - probably the Royal Mews. But those weren't police mounts. They were the Windsor Greys and another breed (which my memory fails me at the moment) that pull the royal/state carriages.

You might be interested to know that the Government of Australia is presenting the Queen with yet another carriage for her 80th. birthday at a cost of $A1.2 million (yes million). It has been approved by HM and building has just been completed here in Australia. To me it seems an outrageous waste of money as the Queen is increasingly irrelevant Downunder. I know the carriages look spectacular, but I am sure the Rolls is a lot more comfortable. Perhaps the carriage will be in the Royal collection when you visit.
