Rovaniemi or Levi??

Hi,

I am considering going to Lapland (Finland) in December before Christmas and I am a bit confused as I would love to visit Santa's village which is in Rovaniemi and get into the Xmas Spirit or whether to go further North to be more in the midst of nature rather than in a city and have more of a chance for snow and Northern lights.

Is the scenery similar or its more spectacular in the North? I read in Rovaniemi in December there might not be much snow yet. Is this the case? How can I combine the 2 places with buses/trains (cheapest way).

I need to decide quick as flights are already very expensive...

I appreciate any feedback... :)

Neither place can be described as a city unless you come from a small island. Lack of snow can be a problem in either place. Scenery is much the same, hills are relatively low (and very much hills not mountains). I struggle to think why one would leave one place and go to the other.

Levi generally has the livelier, adult entertainments, but you will see far less than you will see in a British market town on a Saturday night, for instance I think there is only one cop for the whole county.

If you like to mix with Russian mobsters then Levi is more the place for you, but again they tend to stick to their own hotels.

What to do if there is no snow,,,,,, no idea, but there should be 1 metre in both during December.
