Rothenburg Restaurant Recommendations?

My husband and I leave for our vacation tomorrow and will be in Rothenburg on Sunday for one night. We would love some recommendations on good restuarants to toast the first night of our vacation. We would prefer a good German restaurant, nothing too formal. Any suggestions? We will be staying at the Hotel Klosterstüble.

Thanks!
Tracy

We stayed at Hotel Eisenhut in Rothenburg for 3 days last May. Had one dinner in the hotel restaurant there and it was very nice.

But we preferred the dinner we had at Altfrankische Weinstube, part of a small hotel by the same name near St. Jacob's church. Dark medieval atmosphere and very good Franken food (lots of pork)at very reasonable prices.

Forgot to mention - we did need reservations. Tried to get in the first night and couldn't, so made a reservation for the next night. Here's their website.

We loved the Glocke Restaurant (near Seibers Tower).

They had a sampler of 5 small glasses of Fraconian wines (dry white or not so dry white) for 4,50€ per person.

I had the rump steak with vegetables, and my husband had the chicken snitzel. I had an apple streudel for dessert and DH had a slice of cake.

We loved the food and the atmosphere was great too.

Just up the street toward the Market Square (I believe the street is Schmeidgasse) is the wine shop for the Glocke winery.

P.S. We were able to sample as many wines as we wanted at the Glocke winery and ended up purchasing 3 very good bottles of wine.

I forgot to mention, the atmosphere was wonderful. We were in jeans and not underdressed, and we saw several shopkeepers we'd seen in the day eating dinner together and having a **large** quantity of beer together :-)

We were there just this past February (2/11/05 - 2/15/05).

I'm going to put in a second plug for the Glocke...I had a wonderful pork and chantrelles in cream sauce. The series of 5 wine samples was alot of fun as well!

Oh Tracy...we stayed at Hotel Klosterstuble as well...The food was very very good. Erika is the waitress and extremely attentive, friendly and helpful!

Here in the states I would hardly ever eat at a hotel that I'm staying...which means I dont really stay at the most expensive places.. however I have found that the places I stay at in Europe have fine meals!...when we were there we wanted to go to the winegarten just outside the main gate..but it was raining..can't say if it good or great but a lovely place to sit and soak up the German atmosphere on a first summer night
