Well, for starters there is the Christmas Market. Drink some Glühwein (hot spiced wine), Feuerzangebowle (Glühwein with a shot of rum and a fire-melted rum-soaked sugarcube), and Heiß Met (hot mead) and check out the Christmas crafts. The prices are on the high side but if you see something you must have, go for it.

The museum of crime and punishment is very interesting.

If you're feeling ambitious, you can circumnavigate the town via the city wall.

Be prepared for cold weather and a crowd of pushy people.

I think that that is more than enough time to visit Rothenburg. It's not a very large town. You can start by walking the ramparts and then you could climb the tower for a view of the town and the Christmas stalls. A visit to one of the museums is always interesting (we visited the Crime Museum). And you can just stroll along the Old Town, enjoying those cobblestone streets especially the famous Schmiedgasse. Since there is a Christmas market going on, look into each of the stalls and drink some gluhwein. The only thing you will probably miss is the entertaining Night Watchman Tour which starts at 8pm.

For me the main sight is the town itself, just walking the streets and alleys. Here are some ghosts of Christmas past:

I also like the Reichsstadtmuseum for a quick peek. There was a British artist colony in Rothenburg. I like their landscape paintings in this small museum devoted to the town.

The doors and fountains there are great for picture taking. The whole place is really. Great food there. I am not a fan of those balls of dough though. We loved it at night there most because the tour buses left.
