Rothenburg hotel choice

Hi! I am trying to decide which hotel to stay at. I've narrowed it down to the Markusturm and the Burg. I've found availability for both at about the same price. I just found out we will be there during a town festival (June 3-5). I'm traveling with my husband, sister and brother-in-law. They both look great. Is either one a better choice? Thank you so much!

Hi kap1119, If you click on my name and scroll down a bit (may take a minute or two) you will see that I posted a couple of questions exactly like your above question regarding these hotels and received many great responses.

My husband and I were debating between the Markusturm and Burg and finally decided on the Burg.

Kap, we are staying at the Burg that very weekend! I booked it on the basis of reviews on this site as well as www.tripadvisor.com.

Thanks for the replies. Lily, what a coincidence! When I looked at reviews on several sites, including this one and tripadvisor, they seemed to be equally well reviewed. I can't seem to find one thing better than another. What was your deciding factor? Thanks!

We have stayed at both hotels. Both are nice. I think they have some common ownership/relationship also.

Of the two, I would first go back to the MARKUSTURM. The location is closer to the town square. The BURG is in the rear of Rothenburg.

The Markusturm has a very scenic location. The hotel is pictured on many etchings/guide books of Rothenburg due to its clock tower and fountain outside.

We stayed in Rooms 120 and 121 in 2001. They are the two windows you see overlooking the street in a picture of this hotel. Both rooms were very nice size, good bath and very clean. They have a car park down the street.

You will not be disappointed in the BURG, but our first choice of the two would be the MARKUSTURM.

Hi Kap, to be honest I can't recall what the deciding factor was as I booked it last December!

My main concern is that with the festival going on, will the town be crazy and could the streets be noisy at night? If the Markusturm is close to the town square could it be a crazy place to be? I have no idea what this festival is like and don't know what to expect. Thanks everyone!

You can get more information about the festival at www.meistertrunk.de. It sounds like fun but I suspect the town will be crowded and noisy. We also planned to be in Rothenburg that weekend without knowing that the festival was on. But now I have reserved tickets for the play Saturday night and we're looking forward to the festivities!

We stayed there and really enjoyed it...had the "unusual corner room with balcony". Great bathrooms and wonderful location...a few steps to the square. Have a great trip.
