Rothenburg Germany, Hotels?
 

Twice a year the small town of Rothenburg Germany has a festival where everyone dresses up in costume (1600's) and has a celebration. The celebration is due to the mayor in the 1600's saving the town from the Swiss by drinking a 3.5 L glass of wine (the Swiss were so impressed they left the town alone). The town is one of the most preserved towns in all Germany. It is supposed to be fantastic!!!! I need suggestions on places to stay!

Gotesches Haus is a nice hotel. Not too expensive and conveniently located. Lovely wine cellar in the basement of hotel is lots of fun in the evening.

It has been many years since I was in Rothenburg, but my understanding in that the Hotel Isenhut (sp) is still as charming as ever.It is in the center of town and the rooms were delightful. We dined in the hotel's restaurant on venison accompanied by a light German wine. It was spectacular.

I would suggest you book as soon as possible. I go to Rothenburg every year, usually during the off season. This year I was there for New Years. It is a charming town but can be very tourist laden during the summer. I always stay at the Eisenhut(This is the correct spelling). I get room 108. Roomy. The Eisenhut are three medievil masions joined together. Warning!! It is very expensive. Around $200/night. I would suggest the Reichmeister. A family run hotel only 2 blocks from the Eisenhut and affordable. The Eisenhut and Rothenburg also have web sites. Enjoy your trip. I love the town but hate the tourists. Lots of tourists in for day trips. The town is closed off to traffic during the day unless you have a hotel reservation. Parking can be a problem so ask your hotel if parking is available. Even at the Eisenhut the garage is 10 blocks away. Write if you want more info.

Try the Romantic Hotel. It is expensive but well worth it.

I agree the Romantik Hotel Markusturm was like stepping back in time. It is right at one of the gates of the city. The rooms are decorated beautifully. I felt like I was in a fairy tale.

I would like to travel to Rothenburg,and have heard I can use my railpass to take a bus on the Romantic Road. Where in Frankfurt would I find this bus? OR should I just take the train? Sarah

We traveled by bus on the Romantic Road, & 1 of the stops was Rothenburg, but we traveled from Munich.
Even though the bus travels all the way to Frankfurt, we just did a day trip by bus to a certain
point & then took the train back to Munich. In Munich, the bus started from a bus port right next
to train station. Some of the information about this we got from the book 'Europe by Eurail' &
other information we got by asking at the travel office at the Munich train station when we
arrived there. Our Eurail passes were accepted on the Romantic Road bus. Obviously, if you are
interested in only getting there quicker -- use the train. We took the bus day trip as a way of
stopping at a few different places & also to get a good look at the scenery along the way, things
that would not be seen from the train, or if you see them from the train -- they go by too fast.
You may want to inquire about this at the place you purchase your Eurail Pass, or at the
train station when you get to Frankfurt. We took the bus during mid-MAY, & no reservations
were needed at that time, if you go at peak times, you may need a reservation, but you should
be able to do that at the train station when you arrive..

Had an excellent trip (May 16-19) and the festival was great. I stayed at the Hotel Garni Hornburg (49 9861 8480). Nice rooms with sitting area! Martin and Gabriele Wetzel are the owners. They have two wonderful dogs (Retrievers) Wambo and Olie. They have a large yard and they are right (6M) across from where the fest is held (Romantische Strabe gate). Breakfast is included and the rate was 120 DM a night (peak). If you want a small cozy hotel (24 rooms) for an excellent price, this is the place!

of town a few years ago. It was very nice but a bit
