Rosslyn Chapel Edinburgh
 

Has anyone made the trip out to this site? It sounds intriguing, but there's so much to do in Edinburgh. Also, how's the tour of the Royal Yacht? Thanks

The Roslin Chapel (not Rosslyn) is really amazing and the "Prentice" pillar alone is is worth a visit. But it all depends on how long you are in Edinburgh. it would be good to combine with a visit to Borthwick and Neidpath Castles.<BR><BR>Same goes for the Royal Yacht Britania - it is interesting and definitely worth a visit - but not if you only have a few days In Edinburgh. I have been to both Roslin (several times) and Britania - but would not go to either INSTEAD of the "musts" in Edinburgh.<BR><BR>So if you are in the city 4 to 5 or more days, then go to both.

Unless you're a Knight's Templar or a serious religious/crusaders/conspiracy theory buff then stay in Edinburgh.<BR><BR>It is quite interesting, though.<BR><BR>Re: Britannia, Princess Anne wanted it scuttled rather than let it be used as a tourist attraction. Judge for yourself if it's worth visiting.<BR>

Janis, where is Neidpath? I worked in the midlothian locale for 7 years and never heard of it.

Tony - Don't get around much, huh? :-)<BR><BR>Neidpath is a wonderful little castle above the Tweed just out of Peebles. The reason I mentioned it is because it is directly down the A703 from Roslin. probably about 15 miles due south.<BR><BR>

Janis - what are the "musts" in Edinburgh?

Jamilla: There are MANY musts, but for the first-time visitor the true "musts" include:<BR><BR>The Castle; the Royal Mile in general and Gladstones Land, St Giles Cathedral and Holyrood Palace/Abbey in particular; Grassmarket and the old town; The Museum of Scotland; Round-city hop-on-hop-off double decker bus; National Gallery; Princes Street Gardens - especially when the flowers are in bloom; The New town including Charlotte Square; the Botanical Gardens; the Tattoo and Festivals (in August only); Camera Obscura; Calton Hill. <BR><BR>There are many other things - the Royal Yacht, Arthurs Seat, Cramond, etc, etc.

Ach, that's the Borders, Janis, I don't go there much.<BR><BR>I once spent an achingly boring saturday in Rosewell, marking up areas on the road for patching. Never again.

Tony - your loss, their gain. <BR><BR>The Borders are wonderful. Not better than other parts of Scotland but just as good. I try to spend 3 to 4 weeks every year in Scotland an at least one of those in the Borders. St Abbs Head rivals Big Sur, the Border Abbeys are truly special, fishing on the Tweed is terrific, and the scenery is lovely.

No SLO or Hearst Castle in St Abbs Head, hehe! One day before I pack up and leave this place for good, I'll take a trip down there.

Po - I'm packing up and leaving Scotland, Britain, Europe and heading over to USA. Hope to be there permanently by next Feb, red tape notwithstanding.
