Room reservations
 

I'll be vacationing in Germany this May 21-31. I'll be visiting the Rhine, Black forest and Munich areas, by car. Should I book all or most of my rooms before I leave? Or should I not worry about finding a room when I need one ?? <BR> <BR>Thanks <BR> Scott

Scott, <BR>By "Munich areas" I assume you mean Bavaria to the southwest and south of Munich. You may have problems without reservations in that neck of the woods since, commencing May 22 the Passion Play will be performed daily in Oberammergau. An event staged once every ten years, it will attract over 800,000 tourists to the area from May to October. You can anticipate a scarcity of rooms, inflated prices, long, long lines at tourist attractions and roads crowded with tour buses.

We will be in Munich and to the South of there at exactly the same time. I booked rooms for the weekend of May 27 in the Garmisch area because of the play and it being a weekend. I used the internet and have already secured a booking. A tourist office could probably find you something but if you're fairly sure of your itinerary -- go ahead and reserve.

Scott: My favorite place to stay in this area is Badwiessee, one of five small villages around Lake Tegernsee, thirty miles southwest of Munich. <BR> <BR>Over the years, I have settled on the Gasthaus DiNunzio on Munchner Strasse. Five or seven rooms and an apartment. Rates vary between thirty and eventy dollars. The place is quiet, the rooms are wonderful, and the woman who runs it is a gem. Her husband is an ex-pat american and artist who keeps to himself in his 'atelier'. A hearty reakfast, included in the cost of the room, is delicious. <BR> <BR>E-mail me if you need more information.
